Shampoo & Eye Shadow

Two of our new favorite things to talk about: shampoo and eye shadow. If you ask her what something is, chances are your answer will be on of those two things regardless of whether you are holding a spoon or maybe a tooth brush.

Counting to 10

When Sam counts, sometimes she'll repeat the prompted number and sometimes she skips ahead to the next number. And the "f" sound comes out as and "s" sound so 4 sounds like "sore." Also note the first "statement" she makes that sounds a little like "doo-see-doo." She says this all the time and we are taking suggestions as to what y'all think she might be trying to communicate with us.

"Huppa" Valentine's Day

This is Sam's attempt at saying "Happy Valentine's Day." It is also an example of Samanese where "I love you" is a completely indecipherable string of syllables.

Happy Valentine's Day

Big smile because she has two bows in her hair, a paci in each hand and a paci in her mouth.

Loving on Lola in their matching dresses.

Fixing Lola's hair.

Her "cheese" face.

Big Valentine's smile.

My Valentine's sweetheart.

Helping put the hearts on the banana bread "cupcakes" for her class.

Sneaked a candy heart when mommy wasn't looking.

Helping decorate the rice crispy treats for Daddy.

Sam added all the frosting dots.

Sam wanted a pony tail like mommy's.

The pony tail was short lived. She wouldn't leave it alone.

What She's Up To Now

One of Mommy's gloves and one of hers.

Clapping sounds funny when wearing gloves.

"Gloves on. Can we go outside now?"

Meeting Papa's new bunnies.

"Hi Bunnies."

Sitting on a hay bale, holding a wrench and watching the goats play- only at Gran and Papa's house.

Wagon ride with Cousin Felton, accompanied by Dottie, the dog.

Walking in Daddy's boots.

Happy to help Mommy sort Baby Brother's clothes.

Loving on Baby Brother's clothes- thanks to Cousin Felton and Aunt Whitney.

Playing with the big girl bed that Papa made her.

Insisted on three hair bows this morning.

Let the wardrobe battles begin. A month ago- no hair bows. Now- have to have three at once.

At her 15 month appointment last week, Sam got a clean bill of health though she's still not gaining much weight. She's been between 20 and 21 pounds since she was nine months old. But she's quite an active little girl and still keeping us on our toes. She loves to read books, put puzzles together, make her version of music, and especially play outside. We've tried drawing with chalk but she mostly just likes to hold the chalk, hoarding it from any other sidewalk artist. Her vocabulary is broadening daily. She can repeat most anything we say with a fair amount of accuracy- for a toddler. Here are some words she's most recently conquered: hair bow, eye shadow (likes to help with Mommy's make-up), shampoo, Hunter (our next door neighbor), flower, and squirrel. These accompany her regular vocabulary of words that she uses regularly: Sam, baby (in reference to her doll and Mommy's belly), read, see and chair (when she wants to watch what we are doing in the kitchen she drags a chair over to stand on), up, down, please, no, car, moon, water, diaper, home, school, and Amen (loves to bless the food several times during a meal). But she also speaks Samanese, her own language of specific words that she uses all the time but we have no idea what they mean. Sam can identify most body parts though knee and shoulder are sometimes interchangeable. Eye brows are currently her favorite. And she still enjoys learning and making animal sounds. But Sam insists that a lion trumpets like an elephant not roars like a tiger. Sam changes more and more every day and its hard to keep track of all her new accomplishments. We are looking forward to her next big adventure of big sisterhood. Not too much longer now til Baby Brother arrives.

Sam's Tutu

Sam is starting to repeat most anything we say and the words are getting more and more understandable. She's got "Tutu" down.

Spinning in her Tutu

What is it about a tutu that makes little girls want to spin in circles. I don't think anyone showed her how to do this. I guess its innate.
